Testing standards for hamburger boxes

While hamburger boxes are common fast food packaging, there are specific testing standards and requirements to ensure food safety, ease of use, and stable transportation. These can be explained from several aspects: material safety, structural strength, functionality, and hygiene.

 

Material and Food Safety Requirements
The cardboard, corrugated paper, plastic, or biodegradable materials used in hamburger boxes must be food-grade and free of harmful chemicals and heavy metals. Paper boxes are generally required to be odorless and free of toxic coatings, while plastic boxes should be heat-resistant and not release harmful substances. Testing standards typically include material composition analysis, migration testing (checking for substances in the packaging material that may migrate into the food), and flammability or heat resistance testing.

 

Structural and Strength Requirements
The bottom and side walls of the hamburger box need to have sufficient load-bearing capacity to prevent deformation or collapse during handling, stacking, and delivery. Testing items typically include compression strength testing, drop testing, and folding durability testing to ensure the box can stably support the weight of the hamburger and toppings while maintaining its shape during transportation.

 

Functional and Hygiene Requirements
Functional requirements include lid sealing, oil and water resistance, and breathability to ensure food remains uncontaminated or damp during transportation and storage. Regarding hygiene, testing standards require packaging surfaces to be clean, free of mold and excessive microorganisms. Reusable plastic or eco-friendly hamburger boxes, in particular, require cleaning and disinfection tests to ensure compliance with food safety standards.

 

Packaging and Labeling Requirements
Finished hamburger boxes must also meet labeling requirements, including material specifications, production date, and biodegradability or recyclability markings. This allows users to understand product performance and usage methods, and facilitates inspection by regulatory authorities.
